By pearl - March 04, 2020

I am starting out March Highlighting these two super talented young girls that I am extremely Proud of. At age 10 & 12, they have read more books than most adults I know(Probably me included), they have a super cool Youtube Channel where they review different children's book, and now they are on the way to publishing their own. They need our support. There is no better way to kick off Women's History month than to support these young girls by contributing to their Kickstarter and helping them reach their goal of publishing their first books. DONATE HERE

Sagas of Anya
This book was inspired by our entry for the BBC 500 words competition. I entered with my sister but sadly, we didn’t
manage to win but with my entry, I formed this book, Sagas of Anya. Anya’s mother is also loosely based on my
grandma who sadly passed away when my mother was a few days shy of 1. My auntie, however, was a bit older at the
time of her mother’s passing so I met up with her to discuss what my grandma was like and created the character of
Anya’s mother in her honour.

Life for a young Victorian girl living in a working-class family was often harsh, and no less so in South Wales. Despite daily drudgery and many challenges, life also had its joyful moments — the stuff of memories. For eleven-year-old Anya, the sudden death of her mam as a result of a long-term health condition marks the beginning of a downward spiral for her family. Grieving her loss, Anya has to look on as her remaining parent - her tad - slowly becomes a shadow of the loving and supportive father that he was. When their fortunes reach an all-time low, Anya is packed off to London to become a maid at Tippets House, under the watchful eye and controlling hand of Mrs. Axton, in charge of the ‘downstairs’ staff. Told from Anya’s perspective, Sagas of Anya — written by twelve-year-old Kirsten Mbawa — charts the daily trials, tribulations and joys of a courageous girl who is determined to remain a strong and independent survivor.

Land of the Nurogons
The idea for Land Of the Nurogons came when I entered BBC 500 Word competition in early 2019 together with my
sister. Unfortunately, I didn't get a favourable reply. Mum and Dad encouraged us to carry on with our books, so we
turned them into tens of thousands of words, let alone 500. I got my book inspiration (Land of the Nurogons) from
Rick Riordan, one of my favourite fantasy authors, if not my favourite author.

Hi — I’m Hayden Smith. I’d always considered myself to be an average high school kid. There’s nothing special about me — or so I thought! But what do I know? Well, I had no idea that I’d been marked out as ‘the Chosen One’. You see, I fell into a hole and ended up in a parallel dimension — the world of Nurogonia. How would you explain to your school that you’ve been missing for days because you’d been with a load of Nurogons? Now some bloke called Sosiri wants to rule Nurogonia and turn it into something awful! If I don’t thwart his plans many will die. No pressure then. Told primarily from Hayden’s perspective, Land of the Nurogons — written by ten-year-old Aiyven Mbawa — details the adventures of four ‘ordinary’ teenagers as they embark on a fantasy quest to save a new world that they have come to know and love from the clutches of a very naughty chap!
